House 32
Hi friends! Wow, what a month!
If you are new here, I’m designing houses inspired by the book Royal Barry Wills Houses (you can find it on Archive.org!). Each design (and blog post that goes with it) is named after the page number of the original plan of the book. It’s been a fun challenge so far, and I’m loving it! The goal isn’t 100% accuracy, as houses evolve throughout their lives - just like us! My goal is to create homes rooted in history that support how we live today.
I do feel like this month’s house is much more flesh out than the last! There’s always so much more I think i could do though, especially when it comes to the details! I started with a loose pinterest board for vibes and colours, and the board really grew as I went along. I liked that process, and I think it will be something I will continue to use moving forward.
What we are working with:

What we got:
Design Notes
Immediately, I knew I wanted floor-to-ceiling windows - it makes the whole house feel so much more contemporary. I also did 9’ high ceilings, which gave fun transom opportunities too!
The fabric dividers had to go, especially in the second bedroom. It didn’t make much sense to keep one by the entry, either. That space needed real furniture!! And who doesn’t prefer a good closet door to tuck things away?
I also tried to carve out a bit more privacy for the primary bedroom and bathroom by creating a short hallway. I’m not sure if it is actually more private, but I do like the cute little display area that came out of it!
Keeping the colour palette limited let me play a bit with texture and materials - and I love how neutral all the warm woods feel in this project.
The garage made it this time! And I managed to keep the picture exports (mostly) consistent - unlike last time, where I got a bit carried away. Ha!
I wish I could have added more pictures and doodads - but time ran out!
Still no laundry… in theory it could go in the garage!
What’s Next
I think I pushed this project a little further than last time, and I am proud of that! There is still room to grow, of course. Rendering might be something I explore later on, once I have my time template a bit more figured out.
For now, my main focus is just giving myself enough space to finish these projects without rushing. I’m already excited for the next one!
Thanks for hanging out with me again, and taking a peek at my little house. If you’ve got thoughts, ideas, or just want to say hi, send them my way!
See you next time — hopefully in a month!
